Tooth morphology, nerve supply, development
Trigeminal (V) = main sensory. V1 = Ophthalmic. V2 = Maxillary. V3 = Mandibular (only motor + sensory). Lingual nerve = taste anterior 2/3 (via chorda tympani from VII). IAN block = V3.
Cusp of Carabelli = maxillary molars. Largest cusp = mesiopalatal (upper molar). Longest tooth = maxillary canine. Smallest tooth = mandibular central incisor. Most common supernumerary = mesiodens.
Ameloblasts = ectodermal. Odontoblasts = neural crest (ectomesenchyme). Enamel = most mineralized tissue (96% inorganic). Tomes process = ameloblast. Hunter-Schreger bands = enamel prism direction change.
Disc = fibrocartilage (avascular, aneural in center). Upper joint space = translation. Lower = rotation. Lateral pterygoid = opens mouth + protrudes. Only muscle that opens = lateral pterygoid (inferior head) + digastric.
Parotid = largest, serous only, Stensen's duct. Submandibular = mixed (serous predominant), Wharton's duct. Sublingual = mixed (mucous predominant), Bartholin's duct. Myoepithelial cells present in all.
